Frank Peterson

Treasurer and Co-Founder

Frank retired from the United States Navy as Director of the Propulsion and Hydrodynamics Department in July 2000. When he became a full time volunteer, Frank’s goal was to develop a way to help impoverished rural Guatemalans gain access to surgical care offered by volunteer medical teams. Frank spends about 25% of his time in Guatemala, and the remainder of his time in the United States, raising funds.

Todd Peterson built and maintained a coalition of international partners including the Guatemalan government, USAID, international and national NGOs and foundations, private industry and civil society for Partner for Surgery. He coordinated over 3300 surgeries for 87 international surgical teams in first 5 years of operation.

Beatriz Coningham, board president

Beatriz Coningham

Board President

Beatriz Coningham heads the Human Resources function for NCQA, a non-profit organization focused on improving the quality of health care in the US. Prior to that, she worked in international development and education. She has lived and worked extensively in developing countries, and has dedicated all her professional life to building organizations and capacity. Beatriz has volunteered with Partner for Surgery for over eight years.

Ed Butler, board member

Ed Butler

Board Member

Ed has extensive experience living and working in Latin America and Africa. He is a retired US Agency for International Development Officer and former Peace Corps Director in Ghana and Guatemala. His work has focussed on the the planning and implementation of health, educational and small business development programs in developing countries.
