Frank Peterson

President and Co-Founder

Frank retired from the United States Navy as Director of the Propulsion and Hydrodynamics Department in July 2000. When he became a full time volunteer, Frank’s goal was to develop a way to help impoverished rural Guatemalans gain access to surgical care offered by volunteer medical teams. Frank spends about 25% of his time in Guatemala, and the remainder of his time in the United States, raising funds.

Executive Director

Liset was appointed as the new Executive Director for Partner for Surgery’s sister organization, Asociación Compañero para Cirugia (ACPC), on October 8, 2013. Liset manages all operations, programming, human resources, and financial planning and management for the organization. She also works with ACPC staff members to help more impoverished rural Guatemalans gain access to surgical care offered by volunteer medical teams.

Ariel Bernardo Marroquin Garcia

Ariel Bernardo Marroquin Garcia

Director of Operations

Ariel is responsible for all rural medical missions, and for overseeing both the nutrition and cervical cancer prevention programs. He was born and raised in Guatemala City, where he studied English beginning at age 4. After high school, he had the opportunity to attend college in Alabama as an exchange student. Ariel loves to play soccer and spend time with his family, and in the near future will marry his fiancée, Alejandra Gandara.

Medical Director

Dr. Alvarez is the Medical Director for ACPC.

Silvia Eugenia Macario

Silvia Eugenia Macario

Legal and Financial Director, ACPC

Silvia handles all legal and financial matters for ACPC, and assists with coordinating the implementation of the various programs of Partner for Surgery. Silvia is from Buena Vista Chimaltengo, Guatemala. She graduated from Escuela Nacional Leonidas Mencos Avila with a degree in accounting and is currently finishing her law degree at Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala. Silvia brings experience working at various organizations, including Fundacion para el Desarrollo and Fortalecimiento de las Organizaciones de Base.

Otto Leonel Gómez Lemus

Otto Leonel Gómez Lemus

Technical Operator and Programmer

Otto was hired on October 1, 2013 and is responsible for classifying, preparing, and programming ACPC surgical patients. Otto is 20 years old and was born and raised in Santa Catarina Barahona Sacatepéquez, Guatemala. He attended school in Antigua Guatemala and graduated from Colegio Mixto Integral Santiago with a degree in digital electronics and microprocessors. He is currently taking computer classes at the National Technical Training Institute (INTECAP) and is planning to become an IT Systems Engineer in the near future. Otto owns a small computer workshop. He likes playing basketball, soccer and to go running. Otto feels fortunate to become part of ACPC’s team because what is done helps a lot of people to improve their lives.

Diego Aurelio Córdova Toma

Diego Aurelio Córdova Toma

Coordinator of Reproductive and Children’s Health

Aurelio’s work experience includes providing sex education to adolescents in the Ixil region of Guatemala until 2009, then working as a promoter in Partner for Surgery’s Targeted Infant Nutrition Project for two years in the Department of Quiché. Since graduating in June 2012 from a professional nursing program, Aurelio has worked for Partner for Surgery’s sister organization, Asociacion Companero para Cirugia (ACPC), as Coordinator of Reproductive and Children’s Health, and recently was certified to perform visual inspection with acetic acid and cryotherapy.

Alicia Merida

Alicia Merida

Logistics Coordinator

Alicia was born in Guatemala, and earned a degree in Communication Science from the University Rafael Landivar, and Galileo University in Guatemala City. Her experience includes a background in event organization and consulting with non-profit organizations in the area of human rights and gender equity. Alicia assists with Surgical Team logistics and programming.

Marta Gomez Xicay

Marta Gomez Xicay

Program Administrator

Marta grew up in a small village. She excelled in school and was admitted to a university where she earned a degree in Human Rights. Partner for Surgery hired her as a Secretary, but she quickly demonstrated the potential to do much more. Marta is now responsible for programming Partner for Surgery’s surgical patients. That means the 700+ patients that were operated on in 2012 were all classified and prepared by Marta. Marta continues to set her sights high. She began weekend classes in nursing this past January. We are proud that Marta started her career with us.

Mayra Leticia Chen

Mayra Leticia Chen

Health Promoter

Mayra was born and raised in San Juan Chamelco. She is fluent in both Spanish and Quechi and has been working with ACPC for 8 years. Mayra was born in 1986 and is the mother of three children.
