Welcome to Guatemala! Upon your arrival at Guatemala City Airport (GUA), you will be greeted and transferred to the charming colonial town of Antigua. Check in at your hotel and take some time to settle in. Please note that dinner is not included.
Wednesday 11
Start your day with a delightful welcome breakfast, where we will discuss Guatemala’s socioeconomic and political context. Following breakfast, we’ll embark on a journey to San Juan Sacatepéquez to meet a rural Mayan patient enrolled in the cleft infant nutrition program. Accompanied by the Development Director and Health Promoter, you will have the incredible opportunity to visit the patient’s family in their home and present them with a smokeless stove as a meaningful gift. In the afternoon, you can unwind, explore the local markets, and stroll through Antigua’s historic streets.Thursday 12
Get ready for an early morning departure as we head to Tecpan, where a delicious breakfast awaits. From there, we continue our journey to the picturesque Lake Atitlan. After checking in at Hotel Bambu, we will take a scenic boat ride to San Juan la Laguna. Marvel at the breathtaking views from an outlook spot and witness the traditional Mayan tie-dying process by skilled weavers. In the afternoon, you can relax and enjoy the amenities of Hotel Bambu, such as the jacuzzi or temescal, or take a leisurely walk around Santiago Atitlan Village.Friday 13
Following breakfast, we’ll return to Antigua, making a stop in Tecpan for a guided visit to the pre-Columbian ruins of Iximché. Experience the intriguing Mayan rituals performed at this ancient site. After a light lunch, we’ll return to Antigua in time for dinner.Saturday 14
Start your day with a delicious breakfast before visiting the patient shelter, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet and interact with patients who have arrived for the upcoming surgical mission. The afternoon is yours to enjoy, with a variety of options available. You can visit a coffee plantation, explore a jade factory, browse through handicraft markets, delve into museums, pamper yourself at a spa, or even participate in a chocolate truffles workshop or a cooking class.Sunday 15
We will meet at the XVI century hospital in the early morning to meet the dedicated team performing life-changing surgeries during the upcoming mission. You’ll also have the chance to meet the patients and tour the hospital facilities. Later in the afternoon, a guided tour of the historic Casa Santo Domingo monastery awaits, followed by a special dinner finale at the hotel’s restaurant.Monday 16
It’s time to bid farewell to Guatemala. After breakfast, you will be transferred to Guatemala City airport for your departure flight. If you wish to extend your stay, there are various post-tour activities you can consider, such as exploring the famous Chichicastenango market, visiting the ancient sites of Tikal or Copan, enrolling in a Spanish language school, taking a cooking class, or further exploring the charming city of Antigua.
