Surgical Missions

PSF-Logo-Teal-HD

Our main goal is to work with teams of professional doctors from the United States and Canada to meet the surgical needs of patients who lack the resources to access these services. The individuals treated have been previously evaluated and identified by the teams from the Mobile Rural Medical Clinics.

Our patients can access procedures in general surgery, gynecology, plastic surgery, orthopedics, among others.

Our clinics are held at the Hospital de Obras Sociales del Santo Hermano Pedro in Antigua Guatemala and last for a week.

How It Works

The Surgical Clinics are conducted in outpatient facilities that include well-equipped operating rooms, a recovery room, a postoperative area, and a large facility for sleeping and eating that can accommodate the patients and their families.

The Partner for Surgery team coordinates the transportation of patients for surgery, and each patient is accompanied by a health promoter who handles all necessary logistics (transportation, food, temporary lodging, and interpretation in the patients’ native language).

Before, during, and after each surgical week, our health promoters provide culturally appropriate care to the patients and their families. Our commitment to each patient begins with the first encounter and continues until we accompany them back to their homes after the surgery.
