Become a direct sponsor of a child
in need of cleft lip and/or palate surgery.
See program details below.

Without cleft lip and/or palate surgery a child born in rural Guatemala may not survive and at a minimum will experience significant malnutrition, speech impairment and a lifetime of ostracization. As a Sponsor, you will be funding the monthly visits by a health promoter, lactation support for the mother, child nutritional supplements as needed and, ultimately, the surgery(s) that will change their lives forever.

Becoming a Guardian Angel is an opportunity for you to follow a child’s progress through what is typically two cleft surgeries. Guardian Angels will get email reports in English, direct from the rural health promoters, which provide insight to the child’s life and progress.

With this sponsorship, you will receive photographs of the child and family, as well as background information. Every month after, you will receive an update on the child’s progress with additional photographs. An individual or a group can hold this sponsorship.

Ready to sponsor a child? Select one of the options below to make your donation through our Network for Good portal.

Make a one-time donation

With a one-time donation of $1,000, you’ll be providing full sponsorship of a child for the full duration of the program.

If you’d like to make a group donation along with your friends and family, send an email to for more details. Each member of the group can receive a copy of the progress report via email.

At the end of the program, you’ll have the option to sponsor another child.

Make monthly donations

Monthly donations allow you to make smaller payments while making a big impact. Two options are available in the program:

  • $75 will allow you to be the sole sponsor of a child
  • $25 will allow you to be part of a group of sponsors

Once the child reaches the end of the program, a new child will be automatically assigned to you.

At a glance

  • There are currently over 250* children enrolled in the Cleft Nutrition Program
  • Children are supported in 17 of 22 rural departments in Guatemala
  • Children remain in the program from 6 to 20 months, depending on surgical needs

*Due to limitations imposed by the COVID pandemic, no international teams are expected until the end of the 2021. While we have local Guatemalan teams available, we expect more children will be added to the program in preparation for surgical missions in 2022.
