Dulce, the only girl among 4 brothers, was the second child in the family to be born with a cleft lip and palate. Her brother Julio had already received two surgeries from us 5 years ago.
With a very low weight, Dulce was enrolled in our Infant Nutrition Program in order to prepare for her surgeries.
Her mother was very sad and blamed herself for having another child with a cleft lip and palate, but she did not give up. Coming from a house with no electricity and with water available only from the rain, the family has to walk for one hour and a half through trails to the closest health clinic.
We know that their efforts cannot be in vain. Through our programs, donors, volunteers and partner organizations, our goal is to change this family’s life and put a smile on their faces.
