Josefa had never left her community until her son, Santiago, was born with a cleft lip. Ashamed and blaming herself for having the only child in the community, she was lucky to have been found by Partner for Surgery.
Maynor survived a 13,000 electrical volt discharge which resulted in deep burns in his body. His life was saved by a local hospital, but he still needed burn repair surgeries, which the hospital could not offer.
Edgar won the hearts of many during the Faces of Hope mission in July of 2011. Although he spoke only Q’eqchi’ (an indigenous dialect from Alta Verapaz) he communicated through hugs and smiles.
